Introduction to Nature Journaling (a 3 part series)

Do I have a treat for you all. I met my “neighbor” Geoffrey Haun a year or two after moving to the farm. He lives on the family farm over the hill from ours where he grows heirloom and native varieties of vegetables using low impact methods including permaculture. Geoffrey runs a glorious veggie CSA through the growing seasons. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge about many topics but of particular interest to me, nature and our local fauna and flora. He is also an incredibly talented artist. We have several of his works. Click here to see some of his talent.

He started nature journaling many years ago and he’s shared some of his work with me. I thought it would be very special to have Geoffrey guide and teach us on our own seasonal walks through the farm and fields. This will be a three part series (coinciding with the seasons of spring, summer, & fall). You can participate in one or all three (a discount for signing up for all three now). This will include the walk, experience & education, sketchpad/journal, pencils, waterbrush, and portable watercolors. You don’t need to be an artist by any means. This is not only a way to connect with nature (especially our own local environment) but a way to connect with yourself on another level. It’s pretty transformative and Geoffrey is the perfect guide.

Dates: April 19th, July 12th, October 18th (2-4 pm) at Long Lane Farm

Tulip Mania Workshop

Tulip mania!! Did you know that tulips have one of the longest and most complex histories of any flower on earth? No other flower has carried more political, social, economic, religious, intellectual, or cultural baggage than the tulip! At one point, in the 1600’s there was literally a Tulipomania because people were going nuts acquiring tulip bulbs and paying today’s equivalent of thousands of dollars per bulb!! Not the case anymore of course but tulips are still a highly sought after flower, and rightfully so!

We only grow over 10,000 specialty varieties here at Long Lane Farm. Luscious doubles that get mistaken for small peonies and exotic parrots that appear to dance with their serrated petals. Join us to design a large centerpiece using these beauties. Tulips can be a bit interesting to design with and most people just put a bunch into a vase as is, which is totally fine! But if you want to level up and bring home a gorgeously designed spring arrangement, sign up for Tulip Mania!
No experience necessary. Emily will guide you through her favorite techniques, provide all the beautiful tulips and spring flowers your heart desires, as well as all tools, vessels, and mechanics. The workshop takes place in our 1850’s bank barn which is gorgeous old wonder in itself. Come enjoy an afternoon of tulips on the farm!
