Cut Flower Garden Collection

Spring is coming and seeds are being sown! I wanted to give you a preview of our Cut Flower Garden Collection that will be available later this month for pre-order.

Do you have dreams of having your own cutting garden? Walking outside your door this summer and cutting your own bouquet of flowers. Scattering bud vases throughout your home, getting a little fancy and adding one to your night stand? We can help you make that dream a reality!

Pictured above: lisianthus (a lighter shade of pink will be included in the collection), a bouquet containing 5 of the included flower varieties, double cosmos, and lambada.

Maybe you want a flower garden but you don’t know where to start. Seed starting, choosing flower varieties, when to start the seeds, when to plant the seedlings, how to get from a seed to a seedling!? There IS indeed a lot to account for. Some people love that, but many don’t. If you’re one who doesn’t, lucky for you… I DO and I’m going to take all the guess work out of it and do the hard part for you.

What you’ll get is a curated collection of seedlings ready to plant in your garden. I’ve curated the varieties as well as the color palette (mostly shades of pink with pops of purple, burgundy, and orange and a hint of white. I start the seeds at the right temperature, at the right time, and grow them in the right conditions to ensure nice healthy plants are ready for your garden! These seedlings are flower varieties that are bred for cutting. These zinnias are not the zinnias you can get at the garden center. Good luck finding lisianthus or lambada seedlings at all.

If you love to grow from seed, you certainly can. And I am here for that! I love it so much myself. But if you’re not, this collection is for you.

It’s a ready-to-go, full on flower garden (in baby seedling form), ready to be planted! All 38 plants can take up as little as a 4x8’ bed or you can even plant them in a variety of large containers. Some will need simple support but I provide all the details and how-to’s in a condensed guide.

Let’s talk about what’s included in the collection, the value you’ll receive, and space requirements.

What flowers are in the collection? Let’s take a deeper dive into what varieties I chose (*subject to change based on germination success):

  • Feverfew - dainty white florets in a spray form. These guys are an absolute MUST grow for me. They are a workhorse in the garden and pollinators love them too. What they add to bouquets is hard to find elsewhere.

  • Snapdragons - ah, the glorious snapdragon. They are one of my original favorites. They can be a mystery for many to grow as they like to start cool. We’ll have two different colors for you. A fluffy, frilly open faced variety and a classic petal two-toned variety. Your neighbor will be jealous.

  • Lambada - cue the music, “ooooh, we. need. the funk, we gotta have that funk” - lambada brings the funk to bouquets and I adore them so much. You know who loves them more than me? Pollinators! They can’t get enough of them! Flitting butterflies, buzzing bees, all the good guys.

  • Zinnias - don’t go hum drum over zinnias. These are giant (like palm size), vividly saturated in color, and as tall as your waist. They are not your average zinnia and we’ll give you two glorious colors to ogle over. If you’ve never been impressed with zinnias these will change your mind.

  • Celosia - coming at you with both a crested variety and a high end plume variety, you’ll be set with these everlasting flowers. They are another workhorse in the garden and they dry exactly as they look fresh. Double bonus!

  • Dara - actually a carrot cousin, these parasol flowers come in shades ranging from pale lavender to dark maroon with purple shades in between. A beautiful complementary flower also adored by pollinators.

  • Marigold - another ‘halt, don’t hate’ flower. I know you’re thinking, ew why would I want a 4” tall, puny flower in my bouquet?! This is a cutting marigold and will grow up to your waist just like the zinnias. A billowing bomb of orange fluffy petals that will absolutely make your other flower colors pop! I promise these will change your mind about marigolds

  • Sweet William - also known as dianthus, these clouds of two-toned florets are white with a purple edging and serrated petals. So incredibly unique and a really beautiful contrast to the pinks of many of the other flowers.

  • Strawflower - our second everlasting flower of the bunch and another I’ll always grow. You can dry these and they’ll look as perfect as they do fresh. Strawflowers add great texture to bouquets.

  • Statice - our third everlasting flower and a great complement to bouquets both fresh and dried. Most know them in a purple color but I’m growing PINK for you all. Another wonderful dried flower too.

  • Cosmos - I guarantee you’ll be doubting these are actually cosmos. What they are is double blooming cosmos meaning that instead of a single ring of petals they are packed with layers of petals and are fluffy, dancing, whimsical beauties that add so much charm to bouquets

  • Rudbeckia - also known as black eyed Susan or in our case brown eyed Susan’s. These delicate, tiny dancing yellow flowers will add a pop of yellow as well as added dimension and playfulness to your bouquets. Of all the flowers in this collection, these can be grown as a perennial so you may want to plant this one to the corner or in a different area where you want it to stick around for the next couple years.

  • Scabiosa - one of the dreamiest flowers I grow but with such an ugly name. These little dancing fairy flowers are yet another MUST grow for me. You will get two of my favorite colors, a deep almost black burgundy and a periwinkle blue/purple. They are always the finishing touch that adds so much character. Yet another pollinator attractant!

  • Lisianthus - Oooooh, aaahhhhh. These show stoppers are coming at you by the 4s!!!! Yes, I am adding 4 lisianthus seedlings to this collection and you will not be sorry about it. They are one of the prettiest flowers you can grow or buy and they last forever as a cut flower, nearly 2 weeks in a vase. They resemble a fluffy rose without all the fuss (or chemicals, yuck!). Highly sought after for their beauty, they are surprisingly easy to grow, just not easy to get your hands on in any other way than this collection.

  • Dahlia - as a bonus, you’ll receive 3 dahlia tubers grown here on the farm for you. Plant these tubers mid-may for a fall of blooms you won’t forget!

I’ve got to admit, this is truly a GREAT deal. It is a full garden’s worth of flowers that will produce all season for less than $4 per plant and that’s not including the dahlias which are valued at over $10 each. The actual value of this collection is over $250. Considering you won’t be able to access these seedlings anywhere else if not grown from seed yourself, it’s a gardeners bargain! We’ll be offering the collection for $149 + tax.

How much space do you need? As little as 32 sq. feet, think a 4x8’ raised bed. You can also plant them in several large containers if you choose. The only real requirement is they absolutely must be in full sun.

So, let your flower garden dreams come to life with the help of Long Lane Farm!
